Something to try: a nice HOWTO has appeared on Wired, about installing the Tomato open firmware on routers that use the Broadcom chipset.
Tomato apparently lets you boost wifi transmission power, and set up QoS (quality of service) to try and stop your housemate’s torrent downloads from clobbering your Counterstrike ping times.

YES ! It appears that Sony have done it again. In their zeal to make their DVD movies copyproof (yeah right) they have in fact made their latest releases unplayable on some DVD players, including my Sony DVP-CX995V DVD player. I recently rented “Stranger than Fiction” (2 copies) and “The Holiday” ( [...]

Important announcement: does anyone have an ATX12V power supply that I can use quickly to determine if it’s my PSU that’s broken or if it’s something more serious? That’s the one with two MOLEX connectors, one 20-pin and one 4-pin. It shouldn’t matter if it’s in a computer, [...]

Further, it’s got up to 50,000 random I/Os per second per single-ported controller, which is more than 100 times quicker than regular off-the-shelf drives…” (from Engadget)
