Slashdot cites a story in the Observer about the Security Service seeking to trawl the database of 17 million Londoners’ travel records collected by the Oyster card system.
Boy, I never saw that one coming(!)
I suppose the reason Oyster cards are called such is because of ‘the world is my…’ which comes from Shakespeare:
Falstaff: I will not lend thee a penny.
Pistol: Why, then, the world’s mine oyster,
Which I with sword will open.
In other words, “I don’t need money to reach the riches I want”.
Clever marketing but yeah… I was thinking about Oyster cards watching The Last Enemy… it’s like supermarket store cards too – you’re rewarded with cheaper goods if you let the company have a detailed record of all the goods you buy from their store. You don’t get something for nothing.
