New NiN/Williams album

Trent Reznor recently announced that he was going the way of Radiohead and had managed to extricate himself from the music industry to a point at which he could release music the way he wanted.

Now he’s released an album made with Saul Williams, the hip hop artist, called The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust. Like Radiohead’s In Rainbows, you download it and can decide for yourself if you want to pay for it or not.

I just found out about this but definitely going to download when I get home!

  1. It’s quite interesting to note that only 30% of people paid for the Radiohead album and that bit-torrent traffic was unaffected. Maybe it’s too late to stop a generation of “I can get it for free” users?

Still, I will certainly pay £10 for the next NiN album when that’s up for DRM free download.

  2. Downloaded it last week, but haven’t got around to listening to it yet…

I got the free download (192kbps mp3). If I like it I might buy the flac version.

Also, you realize that Rezor just produced this album, as opposed to be it being a NiN collaboration?

  3. No, I didn’t realise – I see now. I caught a bit of Saul Williams at a festival a couple of years ago and he was awesome so I think I’ll give it listen anyhoo.

  4. I had a listen this afternoon (while working) – not bad by first impressions. You can certainly hear the Rezor influence.

  5. yeah – industrial hip hop?

shame about the U2 cover. not because I like U2 – this is the only one of their songs I have a connection with but this is a lame cover. like the rest of the album tho. amusingly my dad thought sunday bloody sunday was about how shit sunday was as a day of the week.

  6. Industrial hip hop (if that’s what you want to call it) works for me. YMMV

  7. Goddammit, so many spam bots on the old internets… :(
